Regular Season Round 32: Panteras - Abejas 92-84

Date: February 2, 2017
Very predictable result in Aguascalientes where fourth ranked Panteras (18-12) defeated 9th ranked Abejas (9-24) 92-84. The hosts were already 11 points ahead at halftime and as many as 17 after three quarters before a 29-20 last quarter charge of Abejas cut the lead to 92-84 at the end of the game. Panteras dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Abejas' 28 and made 18-of-23 charity shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Abejas 37-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. Panteras players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. The winners were led by the former international forward Fabian Jaimes (198-92) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and the former international power forward Fernando Benitez (204-89) supported him with 14 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Panteras' coach Allans Colon allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 29 points and 11 assists by American guard Tomas Sanchez (190, college: Idaho St.) did not help to save the game for Abejas. Dominican power forward Manuel Guzman (204-82, college: Bemidji St.) added 20 points and 9 rebounds for the guests. Panteras have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 18-12 record. Abejas lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 24 games lost. Panteras will again play against Abejas (#9) in Guanajuato in the next round where they are favorite. Abejas will have a break next round.
