Regular Season Round 2: Matanzas - Santiago 98-94
Date: February 3, 2017
There was no surprise when Santiago (0-2) was defeated on the road by Guerreros (2-0) 98-94 on Friday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 13 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 4 points. Strangely Santiago outrebounded Guerreros 25-12. The former international guard Danys Torrientes (190-85) scored 36 points (!!!) and 6 steals to lead the charge for the winners and Yosniel Moralez chipped in 19 points and 6 steals during the contest. The former international forward Esteban Martinez (192-87) responded with 30 points and Eddy Hechevarria (193-86) scored 18 points and 9 rebounds. Four Guerreros and five Santiago players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Guerreros will meet Pinar (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Santiago will play against Tigres (#1) and hope to win that game.
