Regular Season Round 33: Panteras - Abejas 93-96

A very interesting game took place in Aguascalientes. It ended with only three-point home defeat of 4th placed Panteras (18-13) to ninth ranked Abejas (10-24) 96-93 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Panteras. Panteras were ahead by 1 point after three quarters before a 30-26 charge of Abejas, which allowed them to win the game. They made 19-of-23 charity shots (82.6 percent) during the game. Dominican power forward Manuel Guzman (204-82, college: Bemidji St.) nailed 36 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and American forward Steffphon Pettigrew (196-89, college: W.Kentucky, agency: HMS) accounted for 15 points and 9 rebounds. Four Abejas players scored in double figures. The former international forward Fabian Jaimes (198-92) came up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds and the former international swingman Jorge Alfredo Casillas (196-90) added 17 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for Panteras in the defeat. Abejas maintains ninth place with 10-24 record. Panteras at the other side dropped to the fifth position with 13 games lost. Abejas' next round opponent will be higher ranked Barreteros (#6) in Zacatecas and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Panteras will play on the road against Toros in Nuevo Laredo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
