Everything went according to plan in Helsinki where eighth ranked HNMKY U23 (8-11) won against 13th ranked Namika Lr (2-16) 88-73 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by HNMKY U23. Namika Lr was better in fourth quarter 24-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. HNMKY U23 dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Namika Lr's 30. They outrebounded Namika Lr 48-35 including a 37-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. HNMKY U23 looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was center Petteri Ruutiainen (207-95) who had a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds. Guard Ville Tahvanainen (190-0) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. Four HNMKY U23 players scored in double figures. HNMKY U23's coach used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. American swingman Reginald Bratton (193-86, college: Lenoir-Rhyne, agency: Blacktop Management) produced 32 points and 7 rebounds and forward Karl Engelvuori (191-95) added 10 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively for the guests. HNMKY U23 maintains eighth place in Division with 8-11 record. Loser Namika Lr keeps the thirteenth position with 16 games lost. HNMKY U23 will face league's second-placed PuHu Juniorit in Vantaa in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Namika Lr will play at home against JyWe (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
