Regular Season Round 19: Hap.Haifa - Macc.Rehovot 80-82

A very close game took place in Haifa between Maccabi Rehovot and Hap.Haifa. Seventh ranked Maccabi Rehovot (11-8) got a very close victory on the road over 12th ranked Hap.Haifa (7-12). Maccabi Rehovot managed to escape with a 2-point win 82-80 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Maccabi Rehovot forced 21 Hap.Haifa turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Evan Yates (198-91, college: Ashland) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Swingman Gur Porat (197-79) helped adding 11 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Yates is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Maccabi Rehovot players scored in double figures. Maccabi Rehovot's coach Avner Yeor used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Bahamas forward Jaraun Burrows (203-85, college: IPFW) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and guard Tal Parselani (195-87) scored 24 points. Maccabi Rehovot moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Ironi K-A and Ironi Nes-Ziona. Hap.Haifa lost seventh consecutive game. Hap.Haifa at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the twelfth position with 12 games lost. Maccabi Rehovot will meet at home Hapoel Afula (#9) in the next round. Hap.Haifa will play against Hap.R/G Givat. in Givataim and hope to secure a win.
