Not a big story in a game when 12th ranked Gijon (5-11) was defeated at home by third ranked Leon (12-4) 89-76 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Leon. Gijon was better in second period 25-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 26-of-32 free shots (81.3 percent) during the game. Leon outrebounded Gijon 35-22 including 23 on the defensive glass. Gijon was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American Ted Hinnenkamp (201-93, college: Dickinson, agency: Duran International) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws). Guard Jose-Antonio Lopez (190-96) helped adding 18 points and 6 rebounds. Four Leon players scored in double figures. Leon's coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. At the losing side American center Brian Stone (203, college: Malone) responded with 23 points and 5 rebounds and forward Dani Gonzalez (202-84) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. The victory was the third consecutive win for Leon. They moved-up to second place in Group A-B. Loser Gijon keeps the twelfth position with 11 games lost. Leon will face Naron (#6) at home in the next round. Gijon will play against Innova Chef (#9) in Zamora and hope to win that game.
