Regular Season Round 19: La Roda - Azuqueca 62-67

There was a small surprise when fifth ranked Azuqueca (13-6) defeated on the road much higher ranked La Roda (13-6) 67-62 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But La Roda won fourth quarter 14-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for point guard Carlos Calvo (178-94) who led his team to a victory scoring 8 points and 8 assists. Venezuelan forward Luis Valera (202-88, college: UTRGV, agency: Duran International) helped adding 13 points and 5 rebounds. Azuqueca's coach Marino Rodriguez used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Senegalese power forward Michel Diouf (208-90) responded with 21 points and 8 rebounds and American guard DeAngelo Hailey (190-90, college: NW Missouri St.) scored 8 points and 4 assists. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Azuqueca. They moved-up to fourth place in Group B, which they share with defeated La Roda. Azuqueca will face Viten Fuen. (#15) in Madrid in the next round which should be an easy win for them. La Roda will play on the road against Real Madrid II (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
