Regular Season Round 17: Panionios - Kavala 73-50

A2 top team - Panionios (16-1) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed thirteenth ranked Kavala (5-11) in Athens 73-50. Panionios dominated down low during the game scoring 38 of its points in the paint compared to Kavala's 16 and made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Panionios forced 19 Kavala turnovers. 24 personal fouls committed by Kavala helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international Michalis Pelekanos (198-81) stepped up and scored 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and the former international forward Nikos Barlos (203-79) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. Five Panionios players scored in double figures. Forward Sokratis Gkelios (200-95) responded with 9 points and 10 rebounds and Polish-American guard Andy Mazurczak (188, college: Wisc.-Parkside, agency: Duran International) scored 14 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Panionios have a solid series of three victories in a row. Newly promoted Panionios maintains first place with 16-1 record. Kavala at the other side keeps the thirteenth position with 11 games lost. Panionios' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Psyhiko.
