Regular Season Round 16: Cactus Tbilisi - Mgzavrebi 67-78

Date: February 11, 2017
The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tbilisi: Mgzavrebi (#8) and Cactus Tbilisi (#5). Cactus Tbilisi was defeated at home 67-78 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Mgzavrebi. Cactus Tbilisi managed to win second period 15-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mgzavrebi dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Cactus Tbilisi's 30. Mgzavrebi forced 30 Cactus Tbilisi turnovers. Strangely Cactus Tbilisi outrebounded Mgzavrebi 46-33 including a 21-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Kaheem Ransom (185, college: Sam Houston St.) who helped to win the game recording 16 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and point guard Corey Allen (185-92, college: S.Florida) who added 19 points and 6 steals during the contest. At the losing side guard Terik Bridgeman (198, college: William Pater.) responded with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 19 rebounds and center John Florveus (211-90, college: Georgia) scored 9 points and 13 rebounds. Four Cactus Tbilisi players scored in double figures. Mgzavrebi maintains eighth position with 3-13 record. Cactus Tbilisi at the other side keeps the fifth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Batumi. Mgzavrebi's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi Olimpi.
