Regular Season Round 19: Chalons-Reims - Paris-Levallois 88-94

There was no surprise when 13th ranked Chalons-Reims (7-12) was defeated at home by sixth ranked Paris-Levallois (11-8) 94-88 on Monday. Chalons-Reims was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Jason Rich (191-86) fired 24 points for the winners. The former international center Vincent Poirier (210-93) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. American forward Steven Smith (203-83, college: La Salle) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import swingman Mark Payne (203-88, college: Cal-Davis) added 20 points and 8 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Paris-Levallois moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Gravelines. Chalons-Reims lost their third game in a row. They keep the thirteenth position with 12 games lost. Paris-Levallois will face bottom-ranked Sluc Nancy (#18) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Chalons-Reims will play against Hyeres-Toulon (#10) and hope to win that game.
