Regular Season Round 4: Arena-76 - Hyundai-TSU 62-67

Date: February 15, 2017
Very significant was Hyundai-TSU's (#4) 67-62 road victory against one of their biggest challengers Arena-76. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Arena-76. It was a key game for the top position in the league. It looked good early as Arena-76 took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Hyundai-TSU had a 20-14 second period charge getting the lead and Arena-76 was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 62-67. Hyundai-TSU dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Arena-76's 28. Hyundai-TSU forced 24 Arena-76 turnovers. The winners were led by South African center Christopher Gabriel (210-88, college: San Diego) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds and power forward George Korsantia (203-98) supported him with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Gabriel is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Hyundai-TSU players scored in double figures. Even 19 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists by American guard Rodnerius Lewis (193-93, college: Stillman) did not help to save the game for Arena-76. His fellow American import power forward Peter Alexis (213-92, college: Philadelphia) added 12 points and 14 rebounds for lost side. Hyundai-TSU (3-1) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with BC Titebi and DELTA. Newly promoted Arena-76 dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. Hyundai-TSU will play against Tskaltubo (#5) at home in the next round. Arena-76 will play against BC Titebi and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
