Regular Season Round 17: Sokhumi - Dinamo Tbilisi 86-104

Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Tbilisi: Dinamo Tbilisi (#1) and Sokhumi (#4). Sokhumi was crushed at home by 18 points 86-104 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Dinamo Tbilisi. Sokhumi was better in fourth quarter 33-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Sokhumi 43-28 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Dinamo Tbilisi players were unselfish on offense dishing 33 assists comparing to just 19 passes made by Sokhumi's players. The former international Mikheil Berishvili (204-87) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. Serbian center Nikola Maravic (212-89, agency: BeoBasket) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Five Dinamo Tbilisi players scored in double figures. American guard Dwayne Lathan (190-89, college: Indiana St.) answered with 20 points and 5 assists and naturalized Azerbaijani forward Davit Barbakadze (203-82) added 20 points and 4 assists in the effort for Sokhumi. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Dinamo Tbilisi (17-0) have an impressive series of seventeen victories in a row. They maintain first place with a perfect record of 17 victories in a row. Sokhumi at the other side keeps the fourth position with ten games lost. They share it with Cactus Tbilisi. Dinamo Tbilisi's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Mgzavrebi.
