Very important is a home loss of second ranked Cantbasket (12-4) against fifth ranked Valladolid Univ. (11-6) on Saturday night. Host Cantbasket was defeated by Valladolid Univ. in a tough game in Santander 75-83. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Cantbasket. It looked good early as Cantbasket took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Valladolid Univ. had a 21-13 second period charge getting the lead and Cantbasket was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 75-83. 25 personal fouls committed by Cantbasket helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by forward Pedro Gonzalez (195-89) who scored that evening 28 points and guard Alejandro Heras (189-95) supported him with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Even a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) by American forward Paul Larsen (198-92, college: USC Aiken) did not help to save the game for Cantbasket. Guard Carlos Sepulveda (-96) added 19 points for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Valladolid Univ. maintains fifth position in Group A-A with 11-6 record. Cantbasket at the other side dropped to the third place with four games lost. Valladolid Univ.'s next round opponent will be league's leader Estela in Santander and it may be quite challenging game. Cantbasket will play on the road against Zarautz Ulacia and hope to win that game.
