Regular Season Round 19: Hapoel T-A - Ironi Nahariya 92-71
Date: February 19, 2017
Rather expected game when 9th ranked Ironi Nahariya (8-11) was crushed on the road by sixth ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv (10-9) 92-71. The game was mostly controlled by Hapoel Tel-Aviv. Ironi Nahariya was better in fourth quarter 21-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hapoel Tel-Aviv shot the lights out from three nailing 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Mark Lyons (185-89, college: Arizona, agency: Higher Vision Sports) who helped to win the game recording 35 points (!!!) and 6 assists. Naturalized American power forward Richard Howell (203-90, college: N.Carolina St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Four Hapoel Tel-Aviv players scored in double figures. American point guard Derwin Kitchen (194-86, college: Florida St.) answered with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his eight free throws) and the other American import guard Nick Faust (198-93, college: Long Beach St.) added 15 points in the effort for Ironi Nahariya. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hapoel Tel-Aviv maintains sixth place with 10-9 record, which they share with Maccabi Rishon. Ironi Nahariya lost their third game in a row. They keep the ninth position with 11 games lost. Hapoel Tel-Aviv's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Hapoel Holon on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ironi Nahariya will play against Bnei Hasharon (#3) in Hod Hasharon and hope to win that game.
