Regular Season Round 19: Maccabi Haifa - Hapoel J-M 86-69

Hapoel Jerusalem (#4) was upset in Haifa by eighth ranked Maccabi Haifa 86-69. The game was mostly controlled by Maccabi Haifa. Hapoel Jerusalem was better in second period 22-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi Haifa made 18-of-21 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86, agency: Pro Sports) who led the winners and scored 11 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. American-Mexican point guard Orlando Mendez-Valdez (183-86, college: W.Kentucky, agency: Pro Sports) accounted for 17 points and 4 assists for the winning side. Five Maccabi Haifa players scored in double figures. American point guard Curtis Jerrells (185-87, college: Baylor, agency: Stealth Sport) came up with 11 points and 9 assists and the other American import power forward Travis Peterson (208-85, college: Samford) added 14 points respectively for Hapoel Jerusalem in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Maccabi Haifa maintains eighth place with 9-10 record. Hapoel Jerusalem at the other side keeps the fourth position with eight games lost. They share it with Hapoel Eilat. Maccabi Haifa will play against league's leader Maccabi T-A in Tel-Aviv in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hapoel Jerusalem will play on the road against Maccabi Rishon in Rishon Le-Zion and hopes to get back on the winning track.
