Date: February 21, 2017
Top ranked Maccabi T-A (15-5) recorded its fifth loss in Tel-Aviv on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by third ranked Bnei Hasharon (12-8) 99-92. Maccabi T-A trailed by 13 points at halftime and as many as 14 after three quarters before a 28-21 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 92-99 at the end of the game. Bnei Hasharon made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Jeff Adrien (201-86, college: Connecticut) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds. American-Montenegrin forward Halil Kanacevic (203-91, college: St.Joseph's) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. American swingman Devin Smith (196-83, college: Virginia) produced 22 points and 9 rebounds and the former international point guard Gal Mekel (190-88, college: Wichita St., agency: BeoBasket) added 16 points and 10 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Maccabi T-A's coach Ainars Bagatskis rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Bnei Hasharon maintains third position with 12-8 record having just three points less than leader Maccabi T-A. Maccabi T-A at the other side still keeps top place with five games lost. Bnei Hasharon are looking forward to face league's second-placed Hapoel Holon on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Maccabi T-A will play against Galil Gilboa in Rosh Pina and is hoping to win this game.
