Regular Season Round 22: Zamorano - Sammic ISB 67-72

Not a big story in a game when 16th ranked Zamorano (5-17) was defeated at home by second ranked Sammic ISB (16-6) 72-67. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-6. But Zamorano won second period 25-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sammic ISB dominated on the defensive end, holding Zamorano to just 6 points in first quarter. Worth to mention a great performance of New Zealand center Mike Karena (208-93, college: Wright St.) who helped to win the game recording 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Point guard Gaizka Maiza (191-96) contributed with 11 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Sammic ISB's coach Iker Bueno allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. French point guard Sango Niang (183-93, college: Simon Fraser) replied with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and American point guard Will Perry (180-94, college: Lenoir-Rhyne) added 11 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Zamorano. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sammic ISB keeps a position of league leader. Zamorano lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom place with 17 games lost. Sammic ISB's next round opponent will be Moron (#6) in MorĂ³n de la Frontera where they are favorite. Zamorano will play on the road against L'Hospitalet (#12) and hope to win that game.
