Regular Season Round 21: Valladolid Univ. - Estela 62-81

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Valladolid Univ. (11-7) was outleveled at home by first ranked Estela (17-1) 81-62 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Estela. Valladolid Univ. was better in third quarter 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Estela dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Valladolid Univ.'s 20. They outrebounded Valladolid Univ. 42-30 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for Czech center Tomas Hampl (215-88) who led his team to a victory with 17 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). American guard Riley Stockton (192-92, college: Seattle Pacific) contributed with 6 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Jonatan Arranz (181-94) answered with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and forward Axel Castillo (194-88) added 10 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Valladolid Univ.Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Estela maintains first place in Group A-A with 17-1 record. Loser Valladolid Univ. keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Estela will face Zarautz Ulacia (#13) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Valladolid Univ. will play against Santurtzi (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
