Regular Season Round 13: Santiago - Guantanamo 110-92

Bottom-ranked Guantanamo (0-12) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their 12th consecutive match to sixth ranked Santiago (4-8) 110-92. The game without a history. Santiago led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Esteban Martinez (192-87) who helped to win the game recording 44 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds. Point guard Julio Heredia (183-93) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Santiago's coach Lazaro Guibot allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Swingman Elvis Pons (194-83) answered with 39 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and forward Yuset Tito (197-92) added 14 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) in the effort for Guantanamo. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Santiago moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Ciego de Avila. Guantanamo lost their twelfth game in a row. They still close the standings with 12 games lost. Santiago's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Pinar in Rio and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Guantanamo will play at home against Tigres (#7) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
