Regular Season Round 22: Zaragoza - Baskonia 88-99

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Zaragoza (7-14) was defeated at home by fifth ranked Baskonia (15-6) 99-88. The game without a history. Baskonia led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 17-of-17 charity shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. Baskonia players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. American point guard Shane Larkin (180-92, college: Miami, FL) notched 30 points and 6 assists to lead the effort and Italian power forward Andrea Bargnani (213-85) supported him with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Five Baskonia players scored in double figures. Baskonia's coach Alfonso Alonso allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) by Tongan-New Zealand forward Isaac Fotu (203-93, college: Hawaii) did not help to save the game for Zaragoza. German forward Robin Benzing (208-89) added 19 points for lost side. Baskonia have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. Zaragoza at the other side keeps the twelfth position with 14 games lost. Baskonia's next round opponent will be higher ranked Valencia Basket (#3) at home and it may be the game of the week. Zaragoza will play against Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (#11) in Madrid and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
