Regular Season Round 20: Maccabi T-A - Maccabi Haifa 97-96

Eighth-ranked Maccabi Haifa (9-11) made lots of trouble for first ranked Maccabi T-A (15-5) in Tel-Aviv. Maccabi T-A managed to secure only one-point victory 97-96. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Maccabi Haifa. Maccabi Haifa was ahead by 4 points at the halftime before a 26-17 third quarter run of Maccabi T-A. They made 17-of-19 charity shots (89.5 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Guinea-Bissau-American center Colton Iverson (212-89, college: Colorado St., agency: Pensack Sports) saved the victory by scoring 21 points and 9 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). The former international point guard Gal Mekel (190-88, college: Wichita St., agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 21 points and 5 assists for the winners. American swingman William Graves (198-88, college: N.Carolina) replied with 34 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86, agency: Pro Sports) added 18 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists in the effort for Maccabi Haifa. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Maccabi T-A maintains first position with 15-5 record. Maccabi Haifa at the other side keeps the eighth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Ironi Nahariya. Maccabi T-A will play against Galil Gilboa (#10) in Rosh Pina in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Maccabi Haifa will play on the road against Maccabi Rishon in Rishon Le-Zion and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
