Regular Season Round 22: Cornella - Santfeliuenc 64-59

Rather predictable result when sixth ranked Cornella (10-9) defeated at home 10th ranked Santfeliuenc (7-12) 64-59 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 19-6. But Santfeliuenc won third quarter 21-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cornella dominated on the defensive end, holding Santfeliuenc to just 6 points in first quarter. They outrebounded Santfeliuenc 46-32 including 32 on the defensive glass. Center Alexandre Sanmartin (202-84) had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Bernat Alvarez (176-95) chipped in 8 points and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side guard Xavier Guirao (190-87) responded with 15 points and 6 rebounds and naturalized Andorra guard Roger Lliteras (195-96) scored 17 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Cornella maintains sixth position in Group C-A with 10-9 record, which they share with Arenys and Castellbisbal. Santfeliuenc lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with 12 games lost. Cornella will face Sant Nicolau (#13) in Sabadell in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Santfeliuenc will play at home against JAC Sants (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
