There was no surprise when 4th ranked BVM 2012 (11-7) was defeated on the road by second ranked Leon (14-5) 88-77 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 49-36 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Leon outrebounded BVM 2012 38-27 including 25 on the defensive glass. BVM 2012 was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American Ted Hinnenkamp (201-93, college: Dickinson, agency: Duran International) had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 13 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Javier Laborda (197-91) chipped in 15 points during the contest. Four Leon players scored in double figures. Leon's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side Brazilian center Dida Pereira (203-92, college: Sequoias CC) responded with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 12 rebounds and guard Hugo Rodriguez (186-76) scored 15 points and 4 assists. Leon maintains second position in Group A-B with 14-5 record having just eighteen point less than leader Meridiano Baza. Loser BVM 2012 dropped to the fifth place with seven games lost. Leon will face Ponferrada CDP (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. BVM 2012 will play against Innova Chef and hope to win that game.
