Regular Season Round 20: Ethnikos - Iraklis 69-70

Seventh-ranked Ethnikos (10-10) gave a tough game to second ranked Iraklis (17-3) in Piraeus on Saturday. The visitors from Thessaloniki managed to secure only one-point victory 70-69. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Ethnikos. They outrebounded Ethnikos 44-25 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Lithuanian Ronaldas Rutkauskas (203-92) who helped to win the game recording 8 points and 10 rebounds and guard Mihalis Giannakidis (192-88) who added 15 points during the contest. Iraklis' coach Vangelis Alexandris used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Center Kostas Macheras (205-85) responded with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and swingman Paraskeva Martzos (197-85) scored 20 points. Iraklis have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 17-3 record having just two points less than leader Panionios. Ethnikos at the other side keeps the seventh place with ten games lost. They share the position with AE Larissas and Holargos. Iraklis are looking forward to face league's leader Panionios in Athens in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Ethnikos will play on the road against AE Larissas (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
