Regular Season Round 3: Cocodrilos - Panteras 85-74

Date: March 8, 2017
Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Caracas: Cocodrilos (#1) and Panteras (#5). Panteras were defeated at home 74-85 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Cocodrilos. Panteras was better in fourth quarter 22-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cocodrilos forced 21 Panteras turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Cocodrilos made 7 blocks. It was a good game for American center Maurice Sutton (211-89, college: Villanova) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. His fellow American import forward John Flowers (200-89, college: W.Virginia) contributed with 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Cocodrilos players scored in double figures. The former international forward Jhon Romero (199-85) answered with 14 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and American forward Herbert Hill (208-84, college: Providence) added 12 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Panteras. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Cocodrilos will face Toros (#5) in Maracay in the next round. Panteras will play on the road against Gaiteros in Maracaibo and look forward to get finally their first victory.
