Regular Season Round 26: Catz - PeKa 86-72

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Lappeenranta. Third ranked Catz Lappeenranta faced 4th ranked Peli-Karhut. Host Catz Lappeenranta (17-8) defeated guests from Kotka (13-11) 86-72. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Peli-Karhut. The game was mostly controlled by Catz Lappeenranta. Peli-Karhut managed to win third quarter 17-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Peli-Karhut 45-33 including 31 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Russian forward Elena Reshetko (184-86) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. American point guard Valencia McFarland (163-91, college: Mississippi) chipped in 18 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Five Catz Lappeenranta players scored in double figures. American forward Akilah Sims (178-94, college: IUPUI) produced 27 points and 9 rebounds and her fellow American import guard Daisha Simmons (178-91, college: Seton Hall, agency: Gamble Sports Management) added 22 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Catz Lappeenranta have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Peli-Karhut at the other side keeps the fourth position with 11 games lost. Catz Lappeenranta are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Helmi Basket (#10) in Helsinki in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Peli-Karhut will play on the road against Espoo Utd (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
