Regular Season Round 23: Moncalieri - Sangiorgese 78-73

Very expected game when 12th ranked Sangiorgese (10-13) was defeated on the road by first ranked Moncalieri (16-6) 78-73 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Sangiorgese was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for point guard Daniele Merletto (175-93) who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points and 4 assists. Swingman Leone Gioria (194-84) helped adding 12 points and 6 rebounds. Moncalieri's coach Lorenzo Pansa used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Daniele-Mario Benzoni (196-80) responded with 25 points and 9 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and guard Simone Tomasini (196-93) scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Moncalieri maintains first place in B with 16-6 record. Loser Sangiorgese dropped to the ninth position with 13 games lost. Moncalieri will face Montecatiniterme (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Sangiorgese will play against Firenze Enic and hope to win that game.
