A very close game took place in Puerto La Cruz between Marinos and Guaiqueries. Fourth ranked Marinos (1-3) got a very close home victory over one of their biggest challengers Guaiqueries (3-3). Marinos managed to escape with a 2-point win 68-66 on Sunday evening. The former international forward Juan Herrera (197-81) fired 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. The former international swingman Rafael Perez (193-82, agency: Paris Global Sports) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. American forward Marcus Melvin (206-82, college: N.Carolina St.) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Devan Downey (175-87, college: S.Carolina, agency: Octagon Europe) added 17 points respectively for lost side. Guaiqueries' coach Oscar Silva tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Marinos maintains fourth position with 1-3 record, which they share with Guaros. Loser Guaiqueries keep the third place with three games lost. Marinos will meet league's second-placed Trotamundos in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Guaiqueries will play against the league's leader Bucaneros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
