Regular Season Round 4: Gaiteros - Panteras 106-107

Date: March 12, 2017
Important game to mention about took place in Maracaibo. Fifth ranked Panteras (1-5) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 4th ranked Gaiteros (2-4) 107-106 on Sunday evening. Strangely Gaiteros outrebounded Panteras 58-34 including a 22-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Gaiteros were plagued by 33 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by the former international power forward Luis Julio (201-80) who scored that evening 20 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Kareem Canty (185-93, college: Auburn) supported him with 24 points. Five Panteras players scored in double figures. Even 43 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds by Dominican Juan-Miguel Suero (196-93) did not help to save the game for Gaiteros. The former international forward Hernan Salcedo (198-80) added 8 points, 20 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Panteras maintains fifth position with 1-5 record. Gaiteros at the other side dropped to the third place with four games lost. Panteras will play against Toros (#5) in Maracay in the next round. Gaiteros will play on the road against Guaros in Barquisimeto and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
