Regular Season Round 4: Marinos - Guaiqueries 65-72

The game between Top Four teams took place in Puerto La Cruz. One of their biggest challengers host Marinos (1-3) lost to third ranked Guaiqueries (3-3) 72-65. It looked good early as Marinos took a 12-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Guaiqueries took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 7 points. 24 personal fouls committed by Marinos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a very good performance for American forward Marcus Melvin (206-82, college: N.Carolina St.) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 7 rebounds. The former international forward Jesus Urbina (201-84, college: George Mason) contributed with 11 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Isaiah Swann (188-85, college: Florida St.) replied with 15 points and his fellow American import center Darrius Garrett (206-90, college: Richmond) added 9 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Marinos. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guaiqueries maintains third position with 3-3 record having seven points less than leader Bucaneros. Marinos at the other side keep the fourth place with three games lost. Guaiqueries' next round opponent will be league's leader Bucaneros in La Guaira and it will be for sure the game of the week. Marinos will play on the road against the league's second-placed Trotamundos in Valencia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
