Regular Season Round 9: Sampaio - Blumenau 82-72

Rather predictable result in Sampaio Basquete where fourth ranked Sampaio (8-10) defeated bottom-ranked Blumenau (3-15) 82-72. It looked good early as Blumenau took a 5-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Sampaio had a 17-11 second period charge getting the lead and Blumenau was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-82. 26 personal fouls committed by Blumenau helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for power forward Leticia Rodrigues (190-95) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds. The former international guard Palmira Marcal (176-84) contributed with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. The former international center Fernanda Bibiano (193-85) answered with 21 points and 7 rebounds and guard Mariana De-Almeida (180-85, college: ORU) added 15 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Blumenau. Five Sampaio and four Blumenau players scored in double figures. Blumenau's coach Joao Almeida rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion maintains fourth place with 8-10 record. Blumenau lost their eighth game in a row. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Sampaio's next round opponent will be league's leader Corinthians/Americana in Vila Medon and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Blumenau will play at home against Pres.Valceslau (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
