Regular Season Round 24: Gijon - Betanzos 91-68

There was a surprise result when twelfth ranked Gijon (8-13) outscored at home higher ranked Betanzos (10-11) 91-68 on Saturday. The game without a history. Gijon led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Betanzos' 20. Gijon looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Betanzos' players. The best player for the winners was forward Dani Gonzalez (202-84) who scored 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Diego Sanchez (198-78) chipped in 7 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. Gijon's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Guillermo Pereiro (191-89) who recorded 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and Senegalese power forward Abdou Thiam (204-98) added 9 points and 12 rebounds respectively. Four Betanzos players scored in double figures. Gijon moved-up to tenth place in Group A-B, which they share with Innova Chef. Loser Betanzos dropped to the ninth position with 11 games lost. Gijon will face higher ranked BVM 2012 (#4) in Mieres in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
