Regular Season Round 23: Monaco - Chalons-Reims 81-72

ProA top team - Monaco (20-3) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat thirteenth ranked Chalons-Reims (8-15) 81-72. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 31-20. But Chalons-Reims won second period 19-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Chalons-Reims 50-35 including 20 on the offensive glass. Monaco looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a quality performance for international Billy Ouattara (191-92) who led the winners and scored 27 points and 6 rebounds. American center Brandon Davies (208-91, college: BYU) accounted for 9 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Monaco's coach Zvezdan Mitrovic used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American swingman Mark Payne (203-88, college: Cal-Davis) came up with 19 points, 7 assists and 4 steals (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the other American import power forward Tyler Cain (203-88, college: S.Dakota) added 12 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Chalons-Reims in the defeat. Monaco maintains first place with 20-3 record. Chalons-Reims lost third consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth position with 15 games lost. They share it with Cholet and Dijon. Monaco will meet Hyeres-Toulon (#12) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Chalons-Reims will play against Le Portel and hope to secure a win.
