Regular Season Round 29: Nuernberg - Chemnitz 69-79
Date: March 22, 2017
Everything went according to plan when third ranked Chemnitz (20-9) defeated 12th ranked Nuernberg (11-18) in Nurnberg 79-69. Chemnitz forced 19 Nuernberg turnovers. The best player for the winners was American power forward Joe Lawson (201-92, college: Indianapolis, agency: Interperformances) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Malte Ziegenhagen (198-91, college: Kaiser) chipped in 18 points. Lawson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Dan Oppland (203-84, college: Valparaiso) produced 11 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import point guard Diante Watkins (174-90, college: Robert Morris) added 14 points respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Nuernberg's coach Ralph Junge rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Chemnitz. They maintain third place with 20-9 record having six points less than leader MBC. Nuernberg at the other side keeps the twelfth position with 18 games lost. Chemnitz's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Titans (#16) in Dresden which should be an easy win for them.
