Regular Season Round 23: Aiolos Astakou - Ethnikos 84-70

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 6th ranked Ethnikos' (12-11) road loss to fifth ranked Aiolos Astakou (14-9) 70-84 on Saturday. Aiolos Astakou looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for guard Nikos Kaklamanos (189-81) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points and 4 assists. The former international point guard Fanis Koumpouras (185-83) helped adding 17 points and 6 assists. Aiolos Astakou's coach Michael Koutalianos used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Center Kostas Macheras (205-85) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds and Estonian point guard Rait-Riivo Laane (179-93) scored 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Ethnikos players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Aiolos Astakou maintains fifth place with 14-9 record. Loser Ethnikos keeps the sixth position with 11 games lost. Aiolos Astakou will face league's leader Panionios in Athens in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ethnikos will play at home against Faros (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
