Regular Season Round 24: Maccabi T-A - Hapoel Holon 79-80

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Maccabi T-A (17-7) in Tel-Aviv on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by Hapoel Holon (17-7) 80-79. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Maccabi T-A. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 80-79. Hapoel Holon made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. It was a good game for American swingman James Bell (197-92, college: Villanova) who saved his team from a defeat with 28 points. The other American import forward Darion Atkins (203-92, college: Virginia) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American forward Victor Rudd (205-91, college: S.Florida) replied with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international point guard Gal Mekel (190-88, college: Wichita St., agency: BeoBasket) added 12 points and 6 assists in the effort for Maccabi T-A. Four Hapoel Holon and five Maccabi T-A players scored in double figures. Hapoel Holon have a solid three-game winning streak. They used an opportunity after Maccabi T-A lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position which they share with defeated Maccabi T-A. Hapoel Holon is looking forward to face Hapoel Tel-Aviv (#7) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Maccabi T-A will play against Bnei Hasharon (#3) in Hod Hasharon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
