Fourteenth-ranked Juvecaserta (9-15) gave a tough game to second ranked Umana Venezia (16-8) in Caserta. The visitors from Venezia managed to secure only three-point victory 61-58. However their fans expected much easier game. Juvecaserta was ahead by 10 points at the halftime before a 38-25 second half run of Umana Venezia. They also forced 20 Juvecaserta turnovers. Strangely Juvecaserta outrebounded Umana Venezia 47-32 including 37 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by American guard Tyrus McGee (188-91, college: Iowa St.) who scored that evening 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and Croatian forward Hrvoje Peric (203-85) supported him with 10 points. Umana Venezia's coach Walter De Raffaele allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds by American forward Mitchell Watt (208-89, college: Buffalo) did not help to save the game for Juvecaserta. His fellow American import swingman Josh Bostic (196-87, college: Findlay, OH) added 12 points and 9 rebounds. Umana Venezia have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 16-8 record having four points less than leader EA7 Armani. Juvecaserta lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth place with 15 games lost. Umana Venezia will play against Scandone AV (#3) in Avellino in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Juvecaserta will play on the road against Brescia (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
