Regular Season Round 8: Cocodrilos - Guaros 85-92

Top ranked Cocodrilos (14-2) recorded its second loss in Caracas on Thursday night. Hosts were defeated by third ranked Guaros (4-6) 92-85. They made 26-of-30 free shots (86.7 percent) during the game, while Cocodrilos only scored eight points from the stripe. Guaros looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 27 personal fouls committed by Cocodrilos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American Lazar Hayward (225-86, college: Marquette) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds. The former international swingman Jose Vargas (195-82, agency: Pro Sports) chipped in 17 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Five Guaros players scored in double figures. American center Maurice Sutton (211-89, college: Villanova) produced 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks and international swingman Cesar Garcia (193-90, agency: Pro Sports) added 15 points, 9 assists and 4 steals respectively for the hosts. Cocodrilos' coach Nestor Salazar rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion maintains third position with 4-6 record having sixteen points less than leader Bucaneros, which they share with Marinos. Defending champion Cocodrilos still keep top place with two games lost. Guaros is looking forward to face Panteras (#5) in Caracas in the next round. Cocodrilos will play on the road against Marinos (#4) in Puerto La Cruz and are hoping to win this game.
