Not a big story in a game in Maracaibo where 4th ranked Gaiteros (3-7) were outplayed by second ranked Gigantes (8-4) 88-69 on Thursday. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Axiers Sucre (199-78) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 17 rebounds. American guard Ricky Tarrant (188-93, college: Memphis) chipped in 23 points. Four Gigantes players scored in double figures. Dominican Juan-Miguel Suero (198-93) produced 24 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international forward Hernan Salcedo (198-80) added 6 points and 14 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gigantes maintains second position with 8-4 record having ten points less than leader Bucaneros. Gaiteros lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with seven games lost. Gigantes will face Guaiqueries (#3) in Porlamar in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Gaiteros will play on the road against the league's leader Bucaneros in La Guaira and hope to win that game.
