Regular Season Round 8: Toros - Guaiqueries 81-84

Fifth-ranked Toros (3-9) made lots of trouble for third ranked Guaiqueries (8-6) in Maracay on Friday. The visitors from Porlamar managed to secure only three-point victory 84-81. However their fans expected easier game. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Michael Flores (192-85) who scored 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. American forward Marcus Melvin (206-82, college: N.Carolina St.) chipped in 17 points. Dominican forward Juan Guerrero (201-93) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds and Dominican guard Kelvin Pena (193-80, college: Southeastern CC) added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Five Guaiqueries and four Toros players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Guaiqueries have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Trotamundos. Loser Toros keep the fifth position with nine games lost. Guaiqueries will face league's second-placed Gigantes in Puerto Ordaz in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Toros will play on the road against the league's second-placed Trotamundos in Valencia and hope to win that game.
