Rather expected game in Maracaibo where 4th ranked Gaiteros (3-7) were defeated by second ranked Gigantes (8-4) 89-80 on Friday. Gigantes made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. Gaiteros were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was international point guard Harold Cazorla (175-91) who scored 14 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals. American Quinnel Brown (198-83, college: Auburn) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. Five Gigantes players scored in double figures. American forward Al Thornton (203-83, college: Florida St.) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds and Dominican Juan-Miguel Suero (198-93) added 20 points, 12 assists and 4 steals respectively for the hosts. Gaiteros' coach Gustavo Garcia let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Gigantes maintains second position with 8-4 record having ten points less than leader Bucaneros. Gaiteros lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with seven games lost. Gigantes will face Guaiqueries (#3) in Porlamar in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Gaiteros will play on the road against the league's leader Bucaneros in La Guaira and hope to win that game.
