There was a surprise result in Madrid where thirteenth ranked Estudiantes B (7-19) defeated higher ranked Gran Canaria B (14-12) 65-58 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Gran Canaria B won fourth quarter 26-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Estudiantes B dominated on the defensive end, holding Gran Canaria B to just 6 points in third quarter. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Point guard Juan Llorente (180-93) scored 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) to lead the charge for the winners and guard Pablo Suarez (188-99) chipped in 20 points during the contest. Arturo Fernandez (193-95) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds and guard Joaquin Portugues (185-95) scored 8 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Estudiantes B maintains thirteenth position in Group B with 7-19 record. Loser Gran Canaria B keeps the eighth place with 12 games lost. Estudiantes B will face higher ranked Lanzarote (#12) in Arrecife in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
