There was no surprise when 8th ranked Piombino (13-14) was defeated on the road by second ranked Omegna (18-9) 73-63 on Saturday. Omegna made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Omegna outrebounded Piombino 40-26 including a 31-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for guard Giovanni Gasparin (187-91, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Forward Marco Arrigoni (199-91) helped adding 19 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Omegna players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Alessio Iardella (193-88, agency: Players Group) with 19 points and 4 assists and point guard Simone Bonfiglio (181-88, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 15 points and 4 assists. Omegna maintains second place in B with 18-9 record having two points less than leader Montegrano. Loser Piombino dropped to the ninth position with 14 games lost. Omegna will face Cecina (#13) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Piombino will play against Montecatiniterme (#5) and hope to win that game.
