Regular Season Round 9: Bucaneros - Gaiteros 78-71

Everything went according to plan when first ranked Bucaneros (10-8) defeated 4th placed Gaiteros (4-8) in La Guaira 78-71 on Monday. They outrebounded Gaiteros 47-33 including 33 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for American swingman Jordan Hamilton (201-90, college: Texas) who led his team to a victory with 14 points and 7 rebounds. International center Windi Graterol (204-86, agency: Pro Sports) contributed with 10 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Bucaneros' coach Fernando Calero used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Al Thornton (203-83, college: Florida St.) answered with 21 points and 5 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and the former international forward Hernan Salcedo (198-80) added 10 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Gaiteros. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Despite that victory Bucaneros went down to second position due to points difference. Gaiteros lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the fourth place with eight games lost. Bucaneros will have a break next round. Gaiteros will play at home against the league's leader Guaiqueries (#1) and hope to win that game.
