Regular Season Round 9: Toros - Trotamundos 95-98
Date: April 3, 2017
Fifth-ranked Toros (3-11) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Trotamundos (10-6) in Maracay. The visitors from Valencia managed to secure only three-point victory 98-95. However their fans expected easier game. The best player for the winners was American forward Ricardo Powell (199-83, college: S.Carolina) who scored 26 points and 6 rebounds. The former international Dwight Lewis (197-87, college: USC) chipped in 15 points. At the other side the best for losing team was Dominican forward Juan Guerrero (201-93, agency: Basket Management Solutions) who recorded a double-double by scoring 29 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and American-Peruvian point guard Kyle Fuller (185-92, college: Vanderbilt) added 24 points and 8 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots) respectively. Five Trotamundos and four Toros players scored in double figures. Toros' coach Israel Sarmiento tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Trotamundos. They used an opportunity after Guaiqueries lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Toros lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the fifth place with 11 games lost. Trotamundos' next round opponent will be Gigantes (#3) in Puerto Ordaz, which may be the game of the day. Toros will play at home against Guaros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
