Regular Season Round 9: Bucaneros - Gaiteros 64-82

There was a small surprise when fourth ranked Gaiteros (4-8) won against leader Bucaneros (10-8) in La Guaira 82-64 on Tuesday. It was a good game for American forward Al Thornton (203-83, college: Florida St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds. The former international forward Hernan Salcedo (198-80) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four Gaiteros players scored in double figures. The former international guard John Cox (194-81, college: USF, agency: Pensack Sports) answered with 15 points and international center Windi Graterol (204-86, agency: Pro Sports) added 5 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Bucaneros. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gaiteros maintains fourth place with 4-8 record. Loser Bucaneros dropped to the second position with eight games lost. Gaiteros will face league's leader Guaiqueries in Porlamar in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
