Regular Season Round 9: Guaros - Panteras 82-81

Rather expected game when 5th ranked Panteras (3-13) were edged by third ranked Guaros (6-6) in Barquisimeto 82-81 on Tuesday. Strangely Panteras outrebounded Guaros 48-22 including a 21-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for American Lazar Hayward (225-86, college: Marquette) who saved his team from a defeat with 23 points and 5 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). The former international swingman Jose Vargas (195-82, agency: Pro Sports) contributed with 21 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Guaros' coach Jorge Arrieta used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Swingman Morris Sierralta (190-87) answered with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and American Trey Gilder (206-85, college: Northwestern St.) added 17 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Panteras. Five Panteras players scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains third place with 6-6 record having fourteen points less than leader Guaiqueries, which they share with Marinos. Panteras lost their sixth game in a row. They keep the fifth position with 13 games lost. Guaros will face Toros (#5) in Maracay in the next round. Panteras will play at home against Marinos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
