Regular Season Round 25: Faros - Panionios 84-65

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Panionios (22-3) in Keratsiniou on Saturday night. Visitors were rolled over by fourth ranked Faros (18-6) 84-65. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Panionios. Faros made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. Strangely Panionios outrebounded Faros 39-24 including a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Panionios helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Nikos Liakopoulos (188-83) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 4 assists. Kostas Kakaroudis (204-83) contributed with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Five Faros players scored in double figures. Bosnian-British center Fahro Alihodzic (208-89, college: UAB) answered with 8 points and 8 rebounds and center Tasos Dimitriadis (204-82) added 9 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Panionios. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Faros maintains fourth place with 18-6 record. Newly promoted Panionios still keeps top position with three games lost. They share it with Iraklis. Faros are looking forward to face Psychiko (#7) in Athens in the next round. Panionios' supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Amyntas Dafnis.
