Regular Season Round 10: Panteras - Marinos 96-92

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Caracas where one of their biggest challengers Marinos (5-9) were defeated by fifth ranked Panteras (5-13) 96-92 on Saturday. Panteras made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Marinos were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American Trey Gilder (206-85, college: Northwestern St.) scored 30 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import guard Kareem Canty (185-93, college: Auburn) chipped in 21 points and 10 assists during the contest. At the losing side the former international power forward Hector Romero (202-80, college: New Orleans) responded with 28 points and 6 rebounds and the former international forward Juan Herrera (197-81) scored 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Marinos players scored in double figures. Panteras maintains fifth position with 5-13 record. Marinos lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with nine games lost. Panteras will face league's second-placed Bucaneros in La Guaira in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Marinos will play on the road against Toros in Maracay and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
