Regular Season Round 27: Poitiers - Rouen 81-90

There was an upset when higher ranked Poitiers (14-13) was defeated at home by twelfth ranked SPO Rouen (12-14) 90-81 on Saturday. Poitiers was trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 27-15 charge of SPO Rouen, which allowed them to win the game. They made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. SPO Rouen forced 19 Poitiers turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was a great evening for American-Bahamas forward Jonathan Fairell (201-93, college: Murray St., agency: Duran International) who led his team to a victory scoring 26 points and 6 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). Icelandic Haukur Palsson (197-92, college: Maryland) helped adding 21 points and 8 assists. The best for the losing side was Senegalese center Youssoupha Fall (221-95) with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) and American point guard Jay Threatt (180-89, college: Delaware St.) scored 16 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. Poitiers' coach Rudy Nelhomme tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. SPO Rouen maintains twelfth place with 12-14 record. Loser Poitiers keeps the eighth position with 13 games lost. SPO Rouen will face Saint Chamond (#17) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
